The purpose of the PLU for instructional leaders across the state entitled Teach Like a Champion: 49 techniques that put students on the path to college is to examine a collection of instructional practices and techniques that will ensure higher student achievement and increase teacher effectiveness. The PLU centers on a book study that offers essential tools of the teaching craft so that each leader can unlock the talent and skills of the teachers and students to ensure success. Participants will initially discuss his/her prior knowledge of what works in the classroom. Additionally, the participant will share what he/she hopes to gain from the PLU course. Online discussion groups based on the reading will provide the leaders with opportunities to share and reflect educational practices. The format of the PLU course is designed so that leaders across the state will have opportunities to work together in a true professional learning community environment. The study will conclude with the participant creating an action plan for implementing Teach Like a Champion in his/her district/school. Specifically, the action plan will address the following: top ten techniques that will be emphasized in the schools, provide an implementation timeline, and identify a method of evaluation. The PLU will be available for three consecutive years. One (1) PLU will be awarded.
